Tarka: Online Tantrik Study & Meditation Group

In these gatherings we explore together texts from the Tantrik tradition, think of it as a reading group for yogis! Along the way you may learn some Sanskrit, deepen your understanding of yoga and tantra philosophy, and explore core Tantrik practices.

The next Tarka meetup will be online only and takes place at 7pm on Saturday 16 May. In this next session we will be recapping Chapter 1 of the Tantrasāra. We will then have an extended discussion about the teaching of the three Upāyas, which can be rendered in English as 'The Three Means to Liberation' or 'Three Ways to Freedom'. Kashmir Shaivism has many inspiring and wonderful teachings, and this is certainly one of those. Not only is it philosophically interesting, but this teaching also has great practical import because it describes three different paths of spiritual practise to suit three different types of aspirant, this is really helpful as it moves us away from any misguided idea that 'one size fits all' in spirituality and in Yoga in particular. The first five chapters of the Tantrasāra (the text we are currently studying) basically describe these three Upāyas in detail. We will then take a close look at Chapter 2, which describes an extra Upāya or method, or more accurately, a 'non-method' because it describes the path to liberation that requires no practise at all!! Please note, as we shall see, the kind of person suited to such a path is very rare indeed, 99.99% of us need to engage in some kind of practise!

I am suggesting anything up to £10 to take part in this session, please feel free to offer what you feel you are able. Get in touch with Ben at darshana81@outlook.com or on 07795 033 872 if you would like to join. I will then send you the Zoom link, the readings, and payment details.
