Flowing Towards Stillness
How our 90 minute classes flow
Flowing Towards Stillness: A Journey Through Our Yoga Classes
Each class we offer is a sacred space to reconnect - to breath, to body, to heart. We weave together a rich tapestry of yogic wisdom, blending traditional asana (postures) with the gentle power of breathwork, mantra, philosophy, poetry, mudra, and meditation. Sometimes, we rest in the healing waters of Yoga Nidra. Most of the time, we practice in stillness and silence, without music, though now and then, a recorded track may accompany our closing rest. Once a moon-cycle, we welcome a sound healer to guide us through a deeply immersive 45-minute sound bath, a vibrational journey to soothe the nervous system and awaken the soul.
The Flow of Our 90-Minute Practice
While every session may take on its own flavour - shifting with the season, the moon, or the energy in the room - below is a general outline of what you might experience in one of our 90-minute offerings. Visit this page to dive deeper into the styles we share.
🌿 Arriving (Settling In)
We begin by grounding, a 5–10 minute seated practice to arrive into presence. This may include breath awareness, mantra, mudra, or simply being. It’s a moment to honour the shift from doing into being.
🌾 Warming the Soil (Preparation)
We gently awaken the body-mind-energy field with fluid, preparatory movements. This helps loosen the joints, activate the breath, and bring clarity to the senses - like stretching out into the morning sun.
🌳 Root & Rise (Asana Practice)
We explore postures with care and depth, holding each shape for 2 to 5 minutes to allow the body to speak and the breath to guide. Each pose is a meditation, a conversation with gravity.
🌊 Flowing Like Water (Dru or Hatha Sequences)
As familiarity grows, we begin to string postures together into breath-led sequences - flowing like river currents, moving from stillness into dance.
🙏 Mudra (Sacred Gesture)
Using the wisdom of the hands, body or mind, mudras offer subtle energetic realignments - anchoring intention into form.
🕉️ Mantra (Sacred Sound)
Sound carries the essence of the universe. We may chant or silently repeat sacred syllables to open and close our time together, or weave them gently into movement and breath.
🫁 Pranayama (Breath Expansion)
Breath is life. Through a range of breathing practices, we explore the dance of inhale and exhale, finding spaciousness within. These techniques are offered throughout the session to deepen awareness and pranic vitality.
🌀 Dharana & Dhyana (Focus & Meditation)
Meditative presence infuses every aspect of our practice. Sometimes it arises in the quiet holding of a posture; other times in a dedicated seated or lying meditation. You may encounter traditional practices such as:
Ajapa Japa (mantra-infused breath awareness)
Antar Mouna (inner silence meditation)
Atma Vichara (self-enquiry meditation)
Chakra Shuddhi (chakra cleansing visualisation)
Tratak (candle gazing or object focus)
Nada Yoga (sound meditation including OM chanting or mantra repetition)
🌙 Surrender (Relaxation or Yoga Nidra)
We close by resting deeply. Sometimes this is a simple, nurturing body scan, a visualisation, or listening to poetry or gentle music. Other times, we may touch into the deeper practice of Yoga Nidra - a structured journey into yogic sleep, designed to awaken the inner realms. While time may not always allow for the full practice, when it is offered, it is a profound gift.
✨ Each class is a living ritual - a way to tune into the body’s wisdom, the breath’s rhythm, and the timeless teachings of yoga. Whether you are returning home to yourself, clearing inner space, or simply resting in what is, we welcome you to this shared journey.
Namaste 🙏
